Adebayo Salami mourns Ilorin Chief Imam Shaykh Bashir Solih

Actor Adebayo Salami has expressed grief over the death of the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Shaykh Dr Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih OON, who died in the early hours of Monday at the age of 75.

The 72-year-old took to his Instagram page on Monday to share a photo of the deceased and mourn him.

“A sad day for us in Ilorin, Kwara state as we mourn the glorious demise of our beloved Chief Imam, Sheikh Bashir Saliu.

“May Alah forgive his shortcomings and grant him aljannah firdaos,” he wrote.

The news of his death was shared by the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, Ibrahim Gambari.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Dr Abdulazeez Arowona, the monarch described the death as a monumental loss to the Ilorin Emirate, the Muslim Ummah and humanity at large.

Shaykh Muhammad Bashir Imam Solih was appointed Chief Imam of Ilorin in 1995. He was known for his Islamic scholarship, preaching and efforts at promoting peaceful coexistence. He also served on several religious bodies at state and national levels and was a regular adviser to traditional and community leaders.

Since the announcement of his death, tributes and condolence messages have continued to pour in from religious leaders, traditional institutions and residents of Kwara State and beyond.
