ADC chair warns Obi may lose ticket over low registration

Peter Obi

Abia State chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Norman Obinna has said low membership registration in the South-East may affect the chances of Peter Obi in the party’s presidential primary.

Mr Obinna spoke in Umuahia on Sunday during the inauguration of executive members of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) in Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South local government areas.

He said the former Labour Party presidential candidate may not win the ADC primary without enough votes.

“It is not just about wanting Peter Obi to be president, the question should be how do we deliver Peter Obi,” he said.

Obinna said party members and supporters in the South-East should take part in the ongoing online registration.

He said about 400,000 people have registered in Abia State, while Adamawa State has close to one million.

“Even the ADC online registration, Abia is about 400,000 in the chart, while Adamawa is about 1 million. If the primary election is conducted today, will Peter Obi win, that is my question,” he said.

He asked members of COPDEM and the ADC to mobilise more people and promote good governance.

Also speaking, COPDEM chairman in Abia State, Prince Solomon and a House of Representatives aspirant for Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency, Ogbonna Abarikwu, urged Nigerians to reject bad leadership.
