Actor Timothy Agboola ‘Ereke Ni Shop’ is dead

Actor and broadcaster Timothy Agboola, popularly known as Ereke Ni Shop, has died.

He reportedly died on Wednesday at a private hospital in Lagos after a long illness.

One of his associates, Idris Shogbola, took to his social media page on Thursday to express his sorrow over the broadcaster’s death.

Sharing a picture of the deceased, he wrote, “May the soul of our boss rest in peace.

Baba Oloye Repete… A broadcaster, actor, comedian.
May God Almighty give you eternal rest in peace. Amen.
Ereke ni Shop sun re o,” he wrote.

Agboola was well known for his work in Yoruba broadcasting, comedy and promoting culture. He was seen as a passionate cultural ambassador and a proud supporter of Ijesa culture and tradition.

Agboola was a well known Yoruba radio presenter and comedian. He became popular for his unique way of telling stories and his sense of humor. His shows often highlighted Yoruba traditions and offered social commentary, which made him a favourite among listeners and fans.

Throughout his career, he worked with well known entertainers like Baba Alajeju. Some of his comedy performances date back to the 1970s.

He was also known as a protégé of the late Yoruba comedy legend Gbenga Adeboye, also called Funwontan.

After Adeboye’s death in 2003, Agboola helped sustain the Yoruba variety entertainment style that blended humour, storytelling and music.

He also presented programmes on Faaji 106.5FM, a Lagos based radio station known for indigenous entertainment content.

Besides radio, Agboola appeared in several Yoruba films where he often played witty and humorous characters.

His death has drawn tributes from colleagues and fans who remember him for his contributions to Yoruba broadcasting and comedy.
