Comic actor and content creator Bamidele Oluwatope, popularly known as Okemesi, is in a coma following complications from medication he received after a recent hospital visit.
Fellow actor Jeff Owolewa, known as Tony Montana, shared the update on Instagram, saying Okemesi was readmitted to the hospital after severe reactions to drugs given when he was discharged last week.
“Guys, Okemesi has been hospitalised again. He was sleeping all through Saturday and Sunday without much appetite for food due to complications from the drugs that were given to him when he was discharged last week,” Mr Owolewa wrote.
He added that several hospitals initially declined to admit Okemesi due to lack of bed space. “They admitted him and stabilised him. His breathing is improving, but he has been in a coma since Monday morning. They have placed him on oxygen. We are praying he gets back on track,” he said, appealing for prayers and financial support.
This comes shortly after well-wishers helped Okemesi secure a new apartment following appeals for assistance during his illness. In a recent video, he spoke about his health challenges, lack of basic needs, and a “spiritual attack” he believes worsened his condition.
Okemesi is known for comedy skits in English, Yoruba and his native Ekiti dialect. He has also appeared in several Yoruba and mainstream Nollywood productions, including Dearest, Aborisade, Mebamu and The Order.
