Actor Duro Michael has died after a prolonged illness.
His colleague Stanleyontop confirmed the news on Thursday, days after the actor died.
Michael had been battling diabetes for years. His condition deteriorated to the point that one of his legs was amputated. He later appealed for financial help to get an artificial limb.
In 2022, he received a N5 million donation from Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin for his treatment. But the actor continued to struggle with his health and mobility.
Despite his condition, Michael pleaded with producers in 2024 not to abandon him but to give him roles.
He clarified that he was seeking employment and not financial aid, emphasising his desire to continue working and showcasing his acting skills, which he still possesses.
The actor, known for films like Midnight Love (2003) and The Guilty (2006), was once listed among Nollywood stars battling illness and seeking public assistance.
His death has again drawn attention to the plight of actors who suffer without adequate industry support.
In April, Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) president Emeka Rollas lamented the “troubling pattern of tragedies” in the industry and called for stronger support structures for ageing stars.
