Actor Abiodun Ayoyinka has announced a change of identity, unveiling a new stage name after years of playing the character Papa Ajasco.
In a video shared on his Instagram page on Saturday, the actor introduced himself as Bondu Alaska, marking a shift from the role that made him widely known in the long running series Papa Ajasco.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, good morning Nigerians. My name is Bondu Alaska. The one and only Bondu Alaska,” he said in the clip.
Abiodun also expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their support following his recent viral interview. “I want to use this medium to thank Nigerians because they have done a lot in my life. I’m a new person now, and I promise that I will not let you down,” he added.
The actor has updated his Instagram handle to reflect the new name and asked fans and brands to engage with him under the Bondu Alaska identity.
The development follows a public exchange between Abiodun and Wale Adenuga, founder of Wale Adenuga Productions, over the use of the Papa Ajasco name and image.
In an interviews, Abiodun said he could not present himself as Papa Ajasco for commercial purposes, stating that the name had been trademarked by the production company. He also spoke about financial struggles, saying he had not benefited as expected from the role despite portraying the character for decades.
Wale Adenuga Productions has maintained that the Papa Ajasco brand is its intellectual property, a position that has limited the actor’s use of the name outside the show.
Despite Abiodun’s rebranding, many fans have continued to associate him with the Papa Ajasco character, showing how strongly the role remains tied to his public image.
