Senate minority leader Senator Abba Moro has lost his son and grandson within two days.

The lawmaker’s son, Victor Moro, died in a motor accident along the Mararaba axis in Nasarawa State, barely 24 hours after the burial of his nephew, Senator Moro’s grandson.

Victor was said to have recently returned to Nigeria after completing his studies in Turkey to participate in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.

Reports indicated that he was travelling from the family residence to attend to personal matters when the accident occurred.

Victor was one of Moro’s children from his marriage to Veronica Moro.

The Benue-born senator, who represents Benue South Senatorial District, has been in the National Assembly since 2019 and currently serves as the Senate Minority Leader.

The deaths have thrown the Moro family and their associates into mourning.

Former Senate President Bukola Saraki, in a post on X on Monday, expressed sympathy to the lawmaker and his family.

He wrote, “To lose a grandson, and then, only days later, a son, is a pain no family should ever have to bear. This double bereavement is a deeply difficult moment for the Senate Minority Leader, Distinguished Senator Abba Moro, his wife, and their family. Toyin and I extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences, and pray that the Almighty will strengthen them, comfort them, and surround them with His peace through this very dark season.”
