Actress Motilola Akinlami has opened up about how a blogger once attempted to blackmail her using information about her failed marriage.
In an interview with actress Biola Adebayo, Motilola recounted how she was forced to go public about her divorce after a blogger threatened to expose it.
She said,
“Why did I announce my divorce? There was a blog at that time, the blogger messaged me and said you live in disguise, and I will expose it. I know that you have left your marriage. So, I was like, you want to blackmail me at this point? When I have got nothing else to lose, I will post it.
“There is one guy that is deceiving you, there is one man somewhere. I don’t know, I think I need to ask you people, do people think people go into marriages hoping to leave? I think they think there is a new couple of women out there who go into marriage with the intention of leaving. So make it make sense.
“Except a woman is clinically insãne, no woman will ever go into a marriage with the intention of leaving. You go because you want forever.”
Motilola who has remained vocal about the stigma women face after leaving their marriages, encouraged fellow women not to let public perception or threats derail their peace or healing.

In 2021, the Yoruba actress announced her divorce from her air force husband, who is simply known as Mr Adekunle. The movie star said their decision to split was best for both of them as it involved no anger or violence, but was based on mutual understanding.
Despite the separation, she noted that their duties as parents to their two children remained intact.
Before her official announcement, Motilola had denied reports of a fallout with her former mother-in-law, who was alleged to have described her as too expensive for her son.
After the divorce became public, reports circulated that the marriage collapsed due to an alleged extramarital affair between Motilola and fellow actor Kunle Afod.
Controversial blog Gistlover claimed that Kunle’s wife found out about the affair and accused him of fathering Motilola’s last child due to their striking resemblance. According to the blog, the scandal reportedly prompted Motilola’s husband to walk away from the marriage and abandon her and the children.
Last year, Motilola topped headlines again when she called out Kunle Afod and his wife Desola, accusing them of sabotaging her career. She said Desola falsely accused her of various things on social media, while Kunle allegedly defamed her repeatedly.
In another post, she revealed how the couple tried to break her down emotionally, spiritually and physically, but expressed gratitude to God for seeing her through the ordeal.
