Nigerians have responded with outrage to a viral video of a lady being stripped naked by some men for allegedly stealing a phone.

To punish the lady for the said offence, the men also applied pepper in the lady’s private part.

Since the video started circulating on social media on Monday, Nigerians have greeted it with displeasure.

Reports say that the incident occurred in Benin, Edo State.

A human rights activist, Laila St. Matthew-Daniel, on Tuesday via Facebook, said she had located the assaulted lady. She added with a picture of the lady, “Please let this picture go viral – she should get in touch through my DM! This barbaric behaviour must stop in this country!”

The League of Patriotic Lawyers on Tuesday, in a statement, gave the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Olusegun Odumosu, 24 hours to find those behind the barbaric act.

Chairman of the platform, Abubakar Yesufu, urged the state Director, Department of State Services (DSS) to also investigate the case.

Mr Yesufu said: “The League of Patriotic Lawyers has given the Edo State Commissioner of Police 24 hours to arrest and commence prosecution of all the street urchins behind this barbaric, inhuman, wicked, ungodly and unacceptable act, whose video has gone viral on the social media.”

The yet-to-be-identified men, in the video, overpowered the lady and hurled pepper into her private part as they questioned her on the whereabouts of the phone.

One of the men pushed the pepper deeply with his fingers into her private part, and even threatened to put more if she didn’t confess.

The lady moved about in pain and discomfort as the pepper began to take effect, crying, “I didn’t take any phone. Jesus! I didn’t take any phone. Jesus, I’m dead. I’m dead.”

The lady is now said to be receiving treatment in an unnamed hospital.
