There were reports on Thursday that female business mogul, Hajia Bola Shagaya, plans to host incoming Nigerian First Lady, Hajia Aisha Buhari, to a dinner in London.
While the reports were still unconfirmed, Twitter went into overdrive doing what it does best – troll the latest character that catches its fancy.
Nigerians took to the micro-blogging platform to warn Mrs Buhari against associating with Shagaya, one of the richest women in Africa.
Shagaya’s camp has however denied plans for any such dinner.
Her crime, according to critics, is that she has had an unwholesome influence on wives of Nigerian leaders over the years.
Always quick to make friends with any first lady in power, Shagaya was an ever present figure around Maryam Babangida, Maryam Abacha, Stella Obasanjo and Patience Jonathan.
Nigerian have therefore called on Buhari’s wife to steer clear of the 55-year-old managing director of Practoil Limited and patron of the Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria, (FADAN).
But statement signed on behalf of lady by a Prince Deji Adeyanju on Friday reads: “Our attention has been drawn to a false and misleading story on the social media that Hajia Bola Shagaya is planning to host a dinner party in honour of Mrs. Aishat Buhari, wife of the winner of the March 28, 2015, Presidential Election (General Muhammadu Buhari).
“While we hold Mrs. Buhari in high esteem and commend the victory of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari at the poll, we wish to make it categorically clear for the records that this story is totally untrue and a fabrication.
“Hajia Bola Shagaya has no such plans or has she ever told anyone of such a plan to host Mrs. Buhari. It is purely mischief aimed at misleading Nigerians and disparaging her good name.”
