Police release BudgIT staff, Moses Motoni, deny arrest by SARS

The police have released Moses Motoni, a staff of civil society organisation, BudgIT, who was arrested in Kaduna on Tuesday.

His arrest coincided with a social media campaign against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the police which is widely accused of brutality and extrajudicial killing.

Announcing his release on Wednesday, the police said Motoni was in good condition and that he was not arrested by SARS.

“Mr. Moses Motoni was not arrested by SARS Operatives but by a Police Team on the case of Inciting Public Disturbance reported against him which occurred on the 1st and 2nd of December, 2017 at Gbako, Tandzun and Bida Villages on Federal Constituency Project,” the police said in a statement.
