Former President of the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN), Charly Boy, was attacked by suspected thugs at Wuse Market, Abuja on Tuesday

The self-acclaimed Area Fada was leading a protest calling for the resumption or resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari who has been on sick leave in the United Kingdom since May 7.

Tagged #ResumeOrResign, the protest against Buhari’s continued stay abroad began on Monday, August 7.

The anti-Buhari protesters claimed some youth attacked them when they got to the popular Wuse Market on Tuesday morning.

A BMW car belonging to Charly Boy was reportedly damaged while the musician ran for his life.

He was eventually rescued by security operatives who fired gunshots and tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Deji Adeyanju, one of the protest leaders, confirmed the attack on Twitter.

Adeyanju said the attack was masterminded by a “regular face” among “pro-Buhari protesters” in solidarity with the President.

“We just went to Wuse market for mobilisation against 100 days event tomorrow and a regular face at Unity Fountain brought thugs to attack us.

“They attacked us with police on Tuesday, tried to attack us at Unity Fountain with their government sponsored thugs today is Wuse Market,” Adeyanju wrote.

On Tuesday, August 8, the police cracked down on the anti-Buhari protesters at the Unity Fountain where they had gathered.

The police claimed they acted because hoodlums infiltrated the protesters and wanted to cause public disorder.

Charly Boy, 66, was captured on camera slumping moments after the police fired tear gas canisters and shot water cannons at the protesters on that day.
