Why Asaba-based actors don’t get AMVCA nominations – Esther Audu

Actress Esther Audu has opined that most Asaba and Enugu-based actors do not get the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award (AMVCA) nominations because some of their movies submitted for the award consideration get declined.

Esther said this on Instagram on Monday while responding to her colleague Stanely Nweze who said that the AMVCA should be changed to Lagos awards because it does not recognise actors based in the eastern part of the country.

“AMVCA- African Magic Viewers Choice Awards sincerely should change to Lasgidi/Lagos awards or something else because there are a lot of good actors and crew members in other areas under the same Nollywood working really hard that y’all don’t recognise,” Stanely wrote.

Stanely also suggested that the orgainsers of the award should create a category that recognises actors and filmmakers in Enugu and Asaba.

“I think AMVCA should have a commercial category so that the Enugu and Asaba actors can fit in because if skit/online content can be added to the award category then why should commercial actors be left out…It’s not clear to me.

Reacting to the statement, Esther pointed out that if a movie meets up to the award criteria, it will be nominated for a befitting category.

“There is an open announcement for submission of movies for awards, movies submitted will definitely be screened and some will be accepted and others declined.

“There are criteria and standards they expect from movies, so if a movie meets up to that standard then it will be scrutinized and likely put up for nominations,” she wrote.
