Alapomu sets up committees to develop Apomu town

The Alapomu of Apomu Oba Kayode Afolabi has set up nine committees to develop and rebrand the ancient town.

The committees were inaugurated at the first-ever Apomu Stakeholders meeting held at Ibadan Business  School, Ibadan, Oyo State on Saturday.

Speaking at the meeting, Oba  Afolabi said the event was a turning point in the history of Apomuland.

He urged all Apomu descendants within and outside Nigeria to join Apomu Descendants  Union (ADU) which was formed at the meeting.

Members of the pioneer executive of ADU were selected and inaugurated for a two-year tenure.

The nine committees inaugurated to drive the development and rebranding of Apomu are education, infrastructure, economy, boundary/town planning,  health, legal, social/culture/religion, security and committee of elders.

Queen of Apomu Olori Janet Afolabi was also in attendance at the meeting.

Oba Afolabi was crowned Alapomu by the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi on February 7.

The colourful ceremony was also witnessed by the Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, Oluwo of Iwo, AbdulRasheed Akanbi and several other monarchs as well as government officials.

Located in Isokan Local Government Area of Osun State, Apomu is one of the oldest towns in Yorubaland and had been in existence for over 450 years.
