Court gives Naira Marley till January 14 to appear for car theft trial

A Tinubu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has given musician, Naira Marley, till January 14, 2020, to appear in court for arraignment over car theft.

Chief Magistrate Tajudeen Elias made the ruling on Tuesday, warning that a bench warrant for Marley’s arrest would be issued if he failed to appear in court.

Chief magistrate Tajudeen Elias had on December 16 ordered the Investigating Police Officer (IPO), Sunday Idoko, handling the case to present Naira Marley in court on December 31 for arraignment over car theft.

The magistrate made the order in the trial of three other defendants including two of Marley’s brothers.

The defendants, Idris Fashola, 18, Babatunde Fashola, 24; and Kunle Obere, 22, are facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing, assault and obstructing the arrest of Marley.

The chief magistrate granted the three defendants N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Prosecutor Edet Okoi told the court that the three defendants committed the offences on December 16 at Eko Hotel Roundabout on Victoria Island, Lagos.

He said that the trio who were in a motorcade with Naira Marley, stole a Toyota Camry vehicle with Registration No. FEE 120 AA valued at N1.8 million and an iPhone X5 worth N330,000 belonging to Adelekan Ademola.

He added that the three defendants and others at large assaulted the complainant by beating him up.
