NFF celebrates Samuel Kalu, Mercy Akide on birthday

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), on Monday, celebrated Bordeaux winger, Samuel Kalu, on his 22nd birthday.

The Twitter account of the football body sent a congratulatory wish to the youngster as well as legendary former Super Falcons forward, Mercy Akide.

Under 23 footballer, Kingsley Michael, was also celebrated.

“Birthday shout out to @NGSuperEagles winger Samuel Kalu and U23 Eagles midfielder Kingsley Michael 🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂,” they wrote.

Samuel Kalu was rushed to the hospital after collapsing in the Super Eagles’ final training session before their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener in June.

Kalu fell while trying to take a corner-kick in the training session in Alexandria, Egypt and was immediately rushed to the hospital.

He underwent several medical examinations upon arrival in the hospital and he was said to have collapsed due to dehydration.

Kalu made his senior debut with Slovak side, AS Trencin, before joining Belgian club, Gent, where he spent 18 months.

He joined Bordeaux in the French Ligue 1 in 2018 and scored three times in his debut campaign, which also saw him earn his first international call-up.

He scored his first international goal for the Super Eagles on October 13, 2018 in a 4-0 victory against Libya.
