A policeman and two others have been injured as a result of the death of a shop owner in Lagos, police have said.

Biliki, a tailor, was hit by a bullet on Saturday after policemen fired at a suspect who was on the run at Jakande in Ijegun, Isolo Local Government Area of the state.

The shop owner was hit while in her store which is on a street close to the Oba of Ijegun’s palace.

Biliki, who was said to have been pregnant, died in a hospital.

Lagos police spokesman, Bala Elkana, said the officers were anti-kidnapping operatives and not of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) which has been involved in indiscriminate killing of civilians.

He added that one of the officers was lynched while two others were injured.

“They were Anti-Kidnap, not SARS operatives. We don’t have the details of what happened for now. But the mob has killed one policeman and injured two. The area is still tense. But we are handling it,” Mr Elkana said.

Soldiers also joined in the reinforcements sent to the area.
