Singer 2Baba, formerly known as 2Face Idibia, has revealed that his 2004 hit ‘African Queen’ has been both a blessing and a problem in his career.
In an interview on the Entertainment & Lifestyle show, he said, “African Queen has been a very huge blessing, and e come turn to problem join for me. But I am grateful for everything.”
The track, released on his debut solo album Face 2 Face, propelled 2Baba from Nigerian R&B singer to global Afrobeats star. Its mix of folk guitar riffs and lyrics made it an instant love anthem, earning him international recognition and awards, including BET and MOBO honours.
Despite the success, 2Baba admitted the fame came with challenges. The track was also at the centre of a long-running authorship dispute, with his former group-mate Blackface of Plantashun Boiz claiming credit for writing it. 2Baba has denied these claims while acknowledging their collaboration.
