Nigerians roast Lai Mohammed over jollof rice blunder

Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, on Friday scored an own goal in the long running battle between Nigeria and her West African neighbours over which country makes the best jollof rice.

Speaking in an interview with CNN’s Richard Quest, who is on a pleasurable business trip to Nigeria, the nation’s chief information officer betrayed his ignorance of one of the most contentious topics on blogosphere.

With Ghana and Nigeria drawing daggers over the topic since the creation of Twitter, Mohammed told Quest to the mortification of millions of Nigerians that “I want to think probably Senegal” makes the best jollof rice.

Even Quest was shocked, saying “I hear a shock across the country. I hear a sigh across the country”.

It was scant consolation that the often embattled minister did not mention Ghana, as Nigerian quickly dragged him on the street of Twitter to register their displeasure.
