This is how Tekno reacted to withdrawal of Headies nomination

Triple MG artiste, Tekno, reacted to the news of his disqualification for the Next Rated category of the Headies award on Wednesday by posting a message on Instagram that he was on his way to the New Afrika Shrine for Reekado Banks’ Thank You Concert.

Incidentally, Mavin Records’ Reekado won the last edition of the award.

Tekno, according to organisers of Headies, was disqualified because he refused to participate in required pre-award promotional activities like photoshoot and interviews.

A letter signed by executive producer of the Headies, Ayo Animashaun, said “Tekno has unfortunately not made himself available for any of the mandatory activities, hence the committee’s decision to effectively withdraw his nomination for this year.”

The 24-year-old’s attitude towards the award comes as no surprise. He had written off his nomination shortly after it was announced, posting on Instagram “Next rated after how many years! Let’s be honest pls”.

With the Pana singer’s nomination withdrawn, the contest for Next Rated is now between Ycee, Aramide, Humblesmith and Mr Eazi.

Past winners of the award include Asa, Wande Coal, Davido, Wizkid, Skuki, Sean Tizzle, Omawumi and Patoranking.

The last award generated so much controversy after Olamide disrupted the ceremony to complain about Lil Kesh’s loss to Reekado Banks.
