#NoBraDay: 10 reasons going braless is good for you

October 13 is celebrated as No Bra Day No Bra Day to promote breast cancer awareness and help raise money for research.

Although the origin is unclear the idea of ditching the bra is to serve as a reminder for women to get screened.

The whole of October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, with October 14 also being the “Big Pink” – an event encouraging people to organise events and wear pink to raise money and awareness for breast cancer care.

Wearing or not wearing a bra is entirely dependent on your level of comfort. But if you’ve been looking for reasons to go braless, we present 10 of them.

  1. Sweat quickly evaporates

One of the most inconvenient things about having breasts of any size is the amount of sweat that appears with the slightest hint of heat. When you skip the bra, you have a chance to air it all out rather than pressing that moisture against your skin all day long.

  1. Natural chest shape emerges

You actually get to see the shape of your breasts. No need to be self-conscious. It’s fine if you like a bra-shaped appearance for your breasts, but it never hurts to try something new.

  1. You save money on bras

Bras are really expensive and replacing them is more annoying. If you wind up only wearing one for half of the week, you go through them less fast and spend half as much.

  1. No pressure lines

Even the best bras can leave some uncomfortable marks on your skin. So why not just skip them all together?

  1. It’s extra adventurous

Going without a bra sometimes translates to risking a “wardrobe malfunction,” depending on what you wear it with. Of course you should be modest but the confidence you’ll get from being comfortable in your own skin should be worth it.

  1. Eliminates risk of breast fungus

Regularly wearing ill-fitting bra can create the perfect warm and moist environment that fungi loves to breed in. As unpleasant as it sounds, most women are wearing bras that don’t fit properly, so the chance of developing breast fungus may be more likely than you think, except of course you go braless often.

  1. Reduces the risk of breast cancer

Wearing a constrictive bra can negatively affect the lymphatic system. By impairing blood flow and lymphatic drainage, a too-tight bra can lead to chronic inflammation and fluid retention which in turn could cause breast cancer.

Why else do you think No Bra Day happens on Breast Cancer Awareness month?

  1. Makes your breasts stronger

Not wearing a bra actually makes women’s breasts stronger. The long term effects of not wearing a bra shows that more muscle tissue will grow to provide natural support.

Skip the weight machines at the gym and just throw out your bra!

  1. Breasts get perkier

Due to all that extra muscle tissue, your breasts actually look “perkier” without a bra. A study found that the nipples of women who didn’t wear bras were lifted 7mm higher on average than women who did wear bras.

  1. Keeps skin firm

Not wearing a bra allows blood to flow more readily around your chest, helping with muscle tissue building as well as keeping your skin firm.
